FemiLift Q & A
What is FemiLift?
FemiLift is a state-of-the-art treatment for women with vaginal atrophy, a condition that develops in women whose vaginal tissues become lax and weakened as a result of hormonal shifts in older age. Women who have vaginal atrophy are at an increased risk for urinary incontinence, painful intercourse and urinary tract infections (UTIs).
FemiLift uses special lasers to stimulate the production of collagen and elastin, two components essential for healthy vaginal tissue.
How does FemiLift work?
The laser energy emitted by the FemiLift laser device creates tiny areas of “controlled damage” to the vaginal tissues. This damage stimulates healing responses which in turn stimulate the production of collagen and elastin, two of the primary components of healthy vaginal tissue.
The treatment tightens and tones the vagina and promotes natural lubrication, relieving symptoms like itching, burning, and pain and also reducing the likelihood of developing a UTI.
In addition to treating menopausal women, FemiLift can be used to restore tonicity and firmness in the vagina following vaginal childbirth.
What happens during a FemiLift treatment?
During your FemiLift treatment, you will be required to lie your back on the exam table, and the FemiLift wand will be gently inserted into your vagina. Your provider will control the emission of laser energy, ensuring the entire vaginal canal is treated before removing the wand.
The FemiLift procedure is performed in-office in less than a half hour, and you can return to your regular activities immediately afterward.
When will I see the results of my procedure?
Most women notice improvements within a few weeks of their treatment as their body’s natural healing responses spur the development of new, healthy collagen and elastin. Women who have significant laxity may need additional treatment to achieve maximum results. Your results can be maintained with routine “touch-up” treatments.
Can FemiLift help relieve the symptoms of urinary incontinence?
Yes, many patients report FemiLift helps reduce the symptoms of stress incontinence—leakage of urine that occurs when laughing, coughing, or sneezing, or during strenuous physical activity.
FemiLift helps restore natural fullness and resilience to the vagina, resulting in improving support for the bladder and urethra (the tube that transports urine from the bladder).
