While all of our providers have expertise in prenatal ultrasound we believe that three experts are better than one! Your baby’s health is our top priority. That’s why we go beyond the standard review. Every major milestone ultrasound is reviewed by three different experts: our experienced ultrasonographer, the provider you’re seeing at your visit, and a board-certified maternal-fetal medicine specialist. This triple-check system provides an unmatched level of safety and confidence, ensuring that you and your baby receive the highest level of care and vigilance. Newly pregnant? Have a question about your pregnancy? Communication is key and we are easy to get… Just text our pregnancy coordinator and during business hours she will immediately respond to you, get you an appointment, answer your questions or connect you with a provider. The Avery Center specializes in both low risk and high risk pregnancies. As an independent practice, we are in the unique position to be able to bring our patients to the facilities we feel are best for you. We currently provide maternal care and delivery at St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Bridgeport, part of Hartford Healthcare. What Services are Provided with Prenatal Care?

Prenatal care is designed to keep both you and your baby safe during pregnancy. Through regular checkups, screenings, education, and counseling, your OB/GYN at the The Avery Center monitors your progression through pregnancy and prepares you for labor and childbirth.
At your first pregnancy appointment, your doctor gives you a physical exam and orders blood tests. An internal ultrasound confirms your pregnancy and your due date. In most cases, you also receive a breast and pelvic exam, including Pap smear. Your physician discusses lifestyle habits that can impact your pregnancy. They explain what you can expect during your pregnancy and when you should call the doctor
If you think you’re pregnant, call your OB/GYN right away. Although your first appointment may not be scheduled until around eight weeks, this informs your doctor of your potential pregnancy. After your initial appointment, your doctor wants to see you regularly throughout your pregnancy. Appointments should be scheduled:
  • Once a month through week 28
  • Twice a month through week 36
  • Weekly through birth
If you have a high-risk pregnancy or suffer from certain chronic conditions, you may need to be seen more often, allowing your OB/GYN to monitor both you and the baby.
At the The Avery Center, the team of physicians can handle all types of high-risk pregnancies, including:
  • Twins and triplets
  • In vitro fertilization (IVF)
  • Cervical incompetence
  • Previous preterm or complicated delivery
  • Vaginal birth after cesarean (VBAC)
  • Chronic health conditions
When you’re a patient at the The Avery Center, only one of the practice’s doctors delivers your baby, as one of the physicians is always available. With weekly meetings to discuss high-risk cases and an electronic records systems that allow for instant access from each doctor’s home, all three offices, and the hospital, you can trust that you’re always in good hands.
